What each article status means for writers.

What statuses tell you

A status is the clearest signal of where your article is and who needs to act next. It is not a score, and it is not a judgment on the quality of your writing.

Common writer statuses

• Draft: the article is still private and has not entered review.
• Submitted: the article has been sent into the editorial workflow and is waiting for editor movement.
• Under editor review: an editor has started reviewing the article.
• Needs revision: the editor returned the article to you with feedback.
• Approved by editor: the article is ready for Manager review.
• Under manager review: a Manager is handling the article directly.
• Scheduled: the article has a planned publish time.
• Published: the article is live in the public library.

When the next action is yours

The most important writer action state is Needs revision. That means the article has come back to you, usually with editor notes or a revision reason. Open the submission, read the feedback, revise the article, and send it back when it is ready.

When you are waiting

• Submitted usually means the article is waiting for an editor to begin.
• Under editor review means the editor has started working.
• Approved by editor means the article is waiting for Manager review.
• Scheduled means publishing has been planned and no writer action is needed.

Delayed or inactive revisions

If a returned article waits too long without writer action, it may become inactive. This protects the workflow from old revision loops. When reactivation is available, you can request that the article be reopened instead of starting from scratch.

If a delay happened on the editor side, Managers may see the article through Article Rhythm and can move it forward or reassign it.

• Submitted for review: waiting for an Editor to begin.
• Editor is reviewing: an Editor has started the review.
• Needs revision: returned to the Writer with feedback.
• Sent to Manager: approved by the Editor and waiting for Manager review.
• Manager is reviewing: the Manager is handling the article directly.
• Approved for publishing: Manager approval is complete; scheduling or publication is next.
• Scheduled: publication is planned for a future time.
• Published: the original article is live.
• Revision published: an approved revision of an already-published article is live.
• Paused: a returned revision became inactive and may require reactivation.
